Austin ISD issued the following announcement.
Voters on Tuesday went to the polls one last time, electing Lynn Boswell and Noelita Lugo to the Austin ISD Board of Trustees.
Boswell faced Jennifer Littlefield in the runoff to fill the District 5 seat of outgoing Board Secretary Amber Elenz, who has held the seat that represents Central Austin schools since November 2012.
Lugo defeated Leticia Moreno Caballero for the at-large position 8, which Board Vice President Cindy Anderson has held since November 2016.
According to unofficial results from the Travis County Clerk’s office:
- Boswell received 54.83% of the vote to Littlefield’s 45.17%.
- Lugo garnered 52.15% of votes, and Caballero earned 47.85%.
All results are unofficial until the scheduled Dec. 23 special-called board meeting, where AISD trustees are scheduled to approve the canvassing of the Dec. 15 Runoff Election.
Austin ISD trustees serve four-year terms. The full board consists of nine members. Seats were open in geographical districts 2, 3 and 5, and the at-large position 8, which represents the entire district.
Kevin Foster ran unopposed for the District 3 seat in the Nov. 3 General Election, and voters elected Ofelia Maldonado Zapata for the District 2 seat.
Board members are unpaid representatives who guide the district and represent community expectations as they plan the direction of educational programs and services.
Trustees establish policies for operating the district and ensuring its financial viability. The board also employs the superintendent, approves the budget and monitors expenditures, sets the tax rate, and may call for a bond or tax rate election.
