Austin, TX —Tuesday, Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21) hosted a roundtable with law enforcement officials from across central Texas to discuss the lasting effects of the “Defund Police” movement, recruitment, state and local partnerships, and keeping communities safe.

Some key quotes are below:

  • “The massive wave of illegal immigration from our southern border has put a strain on law enforcement at every level. When Congress reassembles in September, the House GOP needs to work together to back our law enforcement and give them the tools they are telling us they need to fight against the current administration’s poor border policy.”
  • “It is time we start funding our government properly and stop throwing money at programs that don’t work.”
  • “Unfortunately, a handful of political individuals in Austin and San Antonio, seem to want to constantly target and attack our law enforcement. I want [local law enforcement] to know that I’m here for them. I represent the vast majority of Texans who stand with them, but we got a lot of work to do to make sure they can do their job and our streets are safe.”
  • “We’ve got to go out there on offense to make sure the American people know we should stand behind our law enforcement personnel.”
