Electrician launches fund to help Highland Lakes workers through coronavirus shutdown

Ward

A Marble Falls business owner has created a fund to help individuals in the Highland Lakes area who are struggling financially as the result of COVID-19.

“I started it because I’ve seen so many people around here who have lost their jobs and still have mouths to feed,” Jackson Electric owner Brad Jackson told DailyTrib.

The Blue Collar Benevolence Fund will help people with a variety of purchases including food and utility bill payments. Jackson encourages anyone who can donate to the fund to do so.

“I went ahead and donated some H-E-B gift cards, so if someone needs to buy food, they can use those, but I also put some money into it, so if someone has a bill coming and they need some help, well, it’s there,” Jackson said.

The Blue Collar Benevolence Fund was created through the Community Resource Centers of Texas. The organization brings together government and nonprofit agencies to provide individuals in need with a one-stop location to obtain a wide range of resources. Among these resources are food access, housing assistance, employment and health care.

As of April 22, Texas reported 21,069 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 543 deaths. Burnet County has 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
