Like many of their fellow Texans, Kerr County residents are concerned with the spike in their housing appraisals.

The Kerrville City Council even called on Gov. Greg Abbott to hold a special session of the Texas legislature to pass a law to keep the property tax values at 2019 levels. Kerrville City Councilwoman Delayne Sigerman encouraged constituents to write the governor.

Higher property values add to the stress and uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent economic fallout. Before the outbreak, Kerrville was enjoying near-record employment and a reputation as one of the state’s most successful housing markets.

According to the Kerrville Daily Times, state Rep. Andrew Murr (R-Kerrville) said in a letter to the City Council that while a 30-day special session may be called at any time of the Texas governor, Abbott does not plan to call a special session in response to the coronavirus.
