SABINAL ISD: A message from the Superintendent

Forms

Sabinal ISD issued the following announcement.

We know the last six months have been very challenging for our students, parents, staff and community. There has been a constant wave of ever-changing information from all levels of the government and we appreciate your patience and continued support as we try to navigate through troubled times. As a symbol of our commitment, determination and grit, we have adopted a new slogan for our district: "We are Sabinal Strong!"

On June 18, 2020, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) informed all Texas public school districts that we must re-open schools for onsite traditional learning. We were also advised that we will not be allowed to have any long periods of closure as we did last spring. Sabinal ISD realizes some are ready to return and some are apprehensive about returning to school. With guidelines from the Governor, the Texas Education Agency, and other statewide entities, Sabinal ISD is committed to safely start the 2020-21 school year on August 10, 2020, and we will offer two options for instruction that parents may choose: Traditional at-school or Virtual at-home learning. These instructional settings are developed to provide parental choice which will best meet their personal needs in educating their child(ren) during COVID-19. While we believe both options will provide rigorous and academically fruitful instruction, it is also believed that our Traditional, at-school, instructional model is best for our students. Please note, the opportunity to switch between these two instructional models will only be allowed once per six weeks grading period. Please work with us to help our teachers stay focused with instructing students rather than managing children being in and out of their classrooms.

For us to be best prepared, we ask each family to complete an on-survey at: https://bit.ly/SISD20-21 (case sensitive). This survey will allow us to better prepare for instruction as well as managing the multitude of new protocols created by the pandemic.

I want to personally assure each family that the utmost care will be taken to protect all students, staff and visitors to our schools. We have added additional custodians to ensure that cleaning of touched surfaces and restrooms are cleaned several times each day. This said, I ask that everyone entering our facilities, attending athlete or other school events and/or riding in our buses wear proper fitting protective masks, exercise proper social distancing, use hand sanitation frequently and submit to daily health screenings and temperature checks. I realize some might philosophically disagree with these health protocols, however, they are recommendations from the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, the Texas Department of Health, and/or Executive Orders by Governor Abbott.

Lastly, I ask that all parents assist us with the transportation of their child(ren) to and from school as we do not have sufficient buses and drivers to make the quantity of needed routes a reality to accommodate recommended social distancing during this pandemic. Pending the need, we will determine if making multiple runs on the same routes or requiring every bus rider to wear a mask and keep all windows down for air flow would be an option. We appreciate your understanding and support of this request to provide transportation if you are able.

We have posted additional information on our website, including our revised school calendar and school supply lists.

If you have questions, please contact Sabinal Elementary Principal, Mrs. Brady, at 830-988-2436 or Sabinal Secondary Principal, Mr. Alvarado, at 830-988-2475.
