The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded $213,785 to the Sabinal ISD through its Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, grant program to improve security at school facilities within the district.

Under the Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act of 2018, the COPS program is permitted to make awards for the improvement of security at schools and on school grounds, according to U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas).

“As the new school year begins, the safety of our students and educational facilities must be a top priority,” Hurd said. “Sabinal ISD has done a tremendous job prioritizing students’ safety, and, with this grant from DOJ, the school district will be able to do more to keep their students safe and allow students and parents to focus on their education.”
