Austin Community College issued the following announcement.
“If you connect it, protect it.”
October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we want to keep you informed on what that means to Austin Community College District (ACC).
Here are some ways to keep your life online safe:
The biggest things to take away: Passwords and being alert!
Passwords
- Always use multi-factor authentication where you can and change those passwords often.
- Make passwords unique and strong by using different symbols, numbers, and characters.
- Force a lock screen whenever you are not using your computer, laptop, phone, or tablet.
- Set your screen timeout to a short period of time.
- Be cautious of emails or websites that claim to provide information, pictures, and videos.
- Watch for malicious websites. They often imitate legitimate websites, but the URL may use a variation in spelling or a different domain.
New issues could arise as more people work and learn from home. You still need to stay alert. ACC set up a Telecommuting Securely page with best practices, including how to safely use conferencing platforms.
Do your part. #BeCyberSmart.
