Kerr County has teamed with Kerrville Pets Alive! to improve the performance of Kerr County Animal Services and to save and improve the lives of pets.
Kerrville Pets Alive (KPA) was founded in 2019 to answer the Kerr County Commissioners’ Court's call for the creation of a nonprofit to oversee funding, educational projects, pet adoption services, and to publicize the Kerr County Animal Shelter. By publicizing the shelter, people will know there are pets ready to adopt.
KPA is a 501(c)(3) organization. Their commission is to save Kerr County pets from being euthanized by keeping pets out of the county’s animal shelter. Additionally, KPA will assist Kerr County Animal Services by providing resources needed to help get impounded animals in loving homes.
Commissioners have stressed their support for the much-needed program.
“I have been very happy with the support KPA has provided Kerr County Animal Services,” said Commissioner Jonathan Letz, who serves as the liaison commissioner for the county’s animal services division. “KPA has provided both financial assistance and suggestions concerning operations and the long-term direction for Kerr County Animal Services. I think this has been a win-win for the community.”
KPA board members also expressed the significance of the program.
“Kerrville Pets Alive will continue to assess and provide for the needs of Kerr County Animal Services as well as the community, in the effort to keep pets in homes and out of the county facility,” Karen Guerriero, a KPA board member, said.
