City of Fredericksburg issued the following announcement.
COVID-19 community testing events will be taking place in January 2021, over a span of five days. These testing events will be offered free of charge to the public. The testing events are scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2021 through Friday, January 15, 2021. All testing will take place at the Pioneer Pavilion located at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
There is no pre-registration required for this testing. Registration will take place on site. Testing can be conducted on patients under the age of 5 with parental assistance. Testing will be conducted on a first come, first served basis.
The testing method that will be used for this event will be a self-administered oral swab test rather than a nasal swab. Those being tested are asked to wear their masks and to refrain from eating or drinking anything for 20 minutes prior to testing. The events will have the capacity to conduct up to 600 tests.
A screening process will be in place and administered by State Health Department personnel trained to gather information and assess symptoms which could suggest that a person should be tested for COVID-19. Anyone with the primary symptoms of COVID-19, including fever and/or chills, dry or productive cough, fatigue, body aches/muscle or joint pain, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, nasal congestion, or loss of taste and/or smell, will be eligible for testing without the need of a prescription from a medical professional. Anyone who is asymptomatic may also be tested.
Once results are available, patients will receive a text message with a link to a portal with results and information. Those testing positive will also be contacted by their local health department.
