WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Chip Roy (R-TX-21), along with Senator JD Vance (R-OH) and Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL-1), have issued a warning to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, urging him not to deploy U.S. military advisers to Ukraine.
In a letter addressed to Secretary Austin, Representative Roy expressed his concerns, stating, "I write to ask whether the U.S. government plans now, or in the future, to deploy an adviser mission to Ukraine, either U.S. direct hire personnel or contractors, whether under foreign affairs, military, or intelligence authorities... A military adviser mission to Ukraine would run a significant escalatory risk with Russia. It would mean placing additional 'boots on the ground' in the midst of a direct and bloody conflict with Russia."
Highlighting the potential consequences, Representative Roy emphasized that a military adviser mission would be a step towards a dangerous and unnecessary war between the United States and Russia.
The cautionary letter comes in response to recent reports of the United States sending more advanced weaponry to Ukraine, as well as discussions about potential military adviser deployments by influential U.S. publications. The legislators have requested a response from the Pentagon by October 3rd.
