WASHINGTON — Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) expressed his opposition to H.R. 5860, a measure that would extend government funding at bloated FY 2023 levels for 45 days without any cuts to the bureaucracy or provisions related to securing the southern border.
In a statement, Roy criticized the bill, calling it a product of a fundamentally broken Congress that is unwilling to deliver real results for the American people. He highlighted his support for a bill passed just the day before, which extended government funding for 30 days while reducing the government bureaucracy by 30% and funding defense, veterans, and homeland security.
"This bill effectively brought government spending to pre-COVID levels and included the Secure our Border Act of 2023, the strongest border security bill to ever pass Congress," Roy explained. "It would have forced the Biden administration to abandon its open border policies and put an end to the border crisis. Unfortunately, today's bill did nothing of the sort."
Roy emphasized that his focus in this fight has been unwavering for weeks and remains unchanged. He is committed to ending the bloated bureaucracy, overspending in Washington, and most importantly, the border crisis. He believes that the people of Texas and the entire republic deserve nothing less.
"This fight is far from over," Roy declared. "Tomorrow, Border Patrol will still be overwhelmed, Americans will still be dying from fentanyl in record numbers, children will still be trafficked by cartels, and Texas will still be under siege."
He urged conservatives to continue the fight and not reject future opportunities to force the administration to address the out-of-control spending in Washington and the chaos at the border. Roy believes that without security, there should be no funding.
The battle to address these pressing issues continues, and Roy is determined to fight for the well-being and security of the American people.
