Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) has called on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to provide answers regarding the number of known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) crossing the southern border. In a letter addressed to Mayorkas, Roy requested an immediate briefing on the number of KSTs encountered at the border since January 2021, along with details about their countries of origin, terrorist group affiliations, and any documented criminal or terrorist activity they may have been involved in.

The demand for information comes in the wake of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountering 169 KSTs between ports of entry in FY 2023. This number represents a new arrest record and surpasses the total encounters of the past six fiscal years combined. CBP recently issued a memo raising concerns about the potential infiltration of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah members across the border.

Representative Roy expressed his alarm at these numbers, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack against Israel and the calls to action by Islamic terror groups. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "Therefore, I request an immediate briefing on the number of KSTs that have been encountered at the southern border since January 2021."
