On Monday, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) demanded answers from the San Antonio Police Department regarding an illegal alien recently charged with shooting at three San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers in Texas’ 21st congressional district.

On July 28, 2024, three SAPD officers responded to a domestic violence call. The suspect was found lying in bed with a rifle by his side and opened fire on the responding officers. One officer was struck multiple times, resulting in one fatality and another officer injured.

Representative Roy wrote in a letter, “My constituents have routinely expressed concerns - exacerbated by the recent shooting in the district I represent - regarding the impacts of the illegal alien population in San Antonio’s impact on their safety.”

Additionally, Representative Roy requested data on calls placed to SAPD asking for officers to be dispatched to San Antonio’s “Migrant Resource Center” (MRC) and the surrounding area to handle illegal alien-related calls for service, including reported crimes.

Since January 2021, at least 626,232 illegal aliens have arrived in San Antonio, most originating from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, Honduras, and Haiti. From July 7, 2022, when the MRC first opened until now it has provided shelter to at least 345,907 foreign nationals.

Representative Roy said, “…my constituents are rightly concerned about the massive influx of illegal aliens into the San Antonio region and deserve answers on the increased illegal alien population’s impact on public safety.”
