On Wednesday, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued a statement regarding his stance on several legislative bills, specifically S. 1146, H.R. 9076, and H.R. 7213.

"Today, the House was presented with a list of bills, including S. 1146, H.R. 9076, and H.R. 7213, that I could not vote for. While the intentions behind these bills are admirable and commendable, together, they authorize billions in federal spending without corresponding offsets," said Roy.

Roy highlighted the nation's significant debt as a primary concern. "We are $35 trillion in debt and spend more on interest payments on the debt than we do on national defense. That is because we have spent decades refusing to responsibly appropriate and authorize programs. This country will not survive if we keep spending money we don't have."

Additionally, Roy emphasized his commitment to previous pledges as a reason for voting against S.1146. "Moreover, I voted against S.1146 as a matter of keeping my word. In a letter I sent on December 19, 2022, I pledged to vote against any legislative priority put forward by any GOP senator who voted for the fiscal year 2023 omnibus, which — among its myriad problems — was passed in a lame duck Congress controlled by Democrats and perpetuated the federal government’s war on the liberty and security of the American people."
