Representatives Chip Roy and Guy Reschenthaler have taken a firm stance against the Biden-Harris administration's parole program for individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. They are joined by 25 other lawmakers in calling for an end to what they describe as an "unlawful" process.
The program in question allows up to 30,000 people each month from these countries to enter the United States. According to the representatives, more than half a million individuals have been admitted through this scheme.
In their letter, the lawmakers urge the administration to terminate the CHNV program and reduce Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and other forms of immigration relief provided under it. They argue that without these actions, current policies will continue to burden communities nationwide.
The congressmen cite concerns from 25 governors who claim that there has been inadequate communication regarding various aspects of the parolees' status. This lack of information has reportedly led to confusion among local officials and residents.
They further state that since January 2023, nearly 530,000 inadmissible aliens have entered the U.S. through this program, imposing financial stress on numerous communities such as Charleroi in Pennsylvania; Springfield in Ohio; and Logansport in Indiana.
The letter is co-signed by several other representatives including Nancy Mace, Robert Aderholt, John Joyce, Ralph Norman, Claudia Tenney, Troy Nehls, Andy Harris, Jeff Duncan, Andy Ogles, Randy Weber, Keith Self, Matt Rosendale, Scott Franklin, Brian Babin, Paul Gosar, Mike Kelly, Michael Cloud, Dan Meuser, Andy Biggs, GT Thompson Lance Gooden Jodey Arrington Roger Williams Barry Moore and Jerry Carl.
