On November 20, 2024, Representative Chip Roy from Texas's 21st district shared his views on sanctuary cities during an appearance on "Jenna Ellis in the Morning." He expressed his stance on withholding federal funds from states that do not comply with immigration laws.

Roy emphasized the need for stricter border security and adherence to constitutional mandates. He stated, “So if [states are] not going to follow the laws, you're going to endanger the American people with your sanctuary cities, well, then we're not going to we're not going to send any money.” This comment highlights his belief that financial consequences should be imposed on non-compliant states.

He further elaborated on the role of federal government in border security by saying, “Border security certainly has a significant federal focus and purpose, and it's literally put into the constitution…so my short answer is, just take their money away. Still, just don't give any money to these states.”

Roy also called for comprehensive reforms in immigration policy: “But we need permanent reforms…and you need to deport the millions of people released in the United States, not just criminals, but people who ignore laws.” His comments suggest a broad approach towards individuals residing illegally in the country.

He urged Americans to demand action against what he perceives as violations of immigration law by stating: “The correct reaction by the American people is to say that when this administration violated our laws, dumped people into our country, that those people should be removed.”

Lastly, Roy stressed the importance of legislative changes through H.R. 2: “We need to reverse the damage of decades of bad immigration and border security policy. We need to secure the border. We need to enforce it. H.R. 2 needs to be passed and signed into law. We need policy changes.”
