Representative Chip Roy has announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for Texas’ 21st Congressional District. The top honor was awarded to Keshav Singh and Ty Fonseca from Bulverde, Texas, for their app "Semiflow." Both are juniors at Hill Country College Preparatory High School within Comal ISD. Their app is a simulator designed to aid students in understanding physics.
Singh and Fonseca expressed their motivation: “We created ‘Semiflow’ to help students understand the complicated world of fluid dynamics and particle simulations because neither of those subjects are easy, but both are vitally important to the workings of the everyday world. 'Semiflow' is a particle simulator, that helps students, no matter their skill level, understand the inner complexities of particle dynamics, using an abstractified system.”
The second place was secured by Cabrini Bustos from San Antonio with her app "StoryCrafter." She is also in 11th grade at Alamo Heights High School. The third place went to Ryder Garcia, Weston Packer, Luke Schroeder, and Gavin Sneed from Spring Branch for their app "Graph Master," all juniors at Smithson Valley High School under Comal ISD.
The Congressional App Challenge provides a platform for students across America through the United States House of Representatives. It aims to encourage participation in STEM activities like coding. Winning apps may be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year as part of this initiative.
