On Monday, Representative Chip Roy of Texas appeared on Fox Business's Cavuto Coast to Coast to discuss the outcome of Daniel Penny’s legal case. During the interview, Roy expressed his views on the role of the Department of Justice and accountability for what he described as civil rights abuses against Penny.
Roy stated, "The Department of Justice under President Trump should be looking into the civil rights abuses against Daniel Penny… I want our DOJ to hold New York accountable – you can’t do this to American heroes."
He praised an American jury for their decision in favor of Penny, saying, "The fact that an American jury stood against the crazy, tyrannical lawlessness of the New York prosecutor's office, and Alvin Bragg, and stood up and said that this man, this American hero, should be let free. God bless. That means things are heading in the right direction."
Roy further emphasized his hope for justice moving forward: "It's a great step for justice in America. Let's hope that our Justice Department can now get it right going forward."
Chip Roy has experience as a former federal prosecutor and served as First Assistant Attorney General of Texas.
