Today, Representative Roy reintroduced the Healthcare Freedom Act, aiming to give Americans more control over their healthcare decisions. The proposed legislation seeks to expand Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) by introducing "Health Freedom Accounts," which would offer greater flexibility and personalization.

The Healthcare Freedom Act is designed to allow anyone to open a Health Freedom Account. Unlike traditional HSAs, this bill permits tax-free withdrawals for insurance premiums, direct primary care, healthcare-sharing ministries, and other medical cost-sharing organizations. It also aims to create parity between employer-sponsored health insurance and HSAs.

The bill proposes several changes: decoupling HSAs from high-deductible health plan requirements, increasing annual contribution limits from $4,300 to $12,000 for individuals and from $8,550 to $24,000 for joint returns. Additionally, it would enable penalty-free rollover contributions between HFA accounts.

Rep. Roy stated, “It’s time to give freedom back to Americans to choose their own care instead of government bureaucrats. With the Healthcare Freedom Act, Congress can finally disrupt the broken healthcare system, restore free market practices, lower costs, and give Americans the quality of care they deserve.”

The full text of the bill is available for public reading.
