Today, Representative Roy has reintroduced the Border Safety and Security Act, aiming to provide a framework for securing the southern border and preventing the release of undocumented individuals into communities. The bill comes amid claims of a prolonged border security crisis in recent years.

"The American people have endured the worst border crisis in recent history for the past four years due to the Biden Administration's willful refusal to secure the border," stated Congressman Roy. He emphasized that millions of undocumented individuals are currently in the country and that this situation will have long-term effects. "It is imperative Congress enact permanent policies that empower President Trump and future presidents to secure the border. The Border Safety and Security Act does just that."

The proposed legislation would grant authority to the Homeland Security Secretary to deny entry to individuals without valid documents if deemed necessary for operational control of the border. It also mandates using this authority when an individual cannot be detained during an asylum claim process or placed in a program like Migrant Protection Protocols (Remain-in-Mexico). Furthermore, state attorneys general would be allowed to enforce this bill through legal action seeking injunctive relief.

The bill has garnered support from several representatives including Beth Van Duyne, Pete Stauber, Clay Higgins, Dan Crenshaw, Michael Cloud, Eli Crane, Scott Perry, Randy Weber, Monica De La Cruz, Rich McCormick, Harriet Hageman, Roger Williams, Wesley Hunt, Mike Collins, Jake Ellzey, Trent Kelly, Ben Cline, Jeff Van Drew, Scott Fitzgerald, Andy Biggs, Lauren Boebert among others.
