On Tuesday, Representative Chip Roy from Texas announced the reintroduction of the "No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization Act." This proposed legislation aims to prohibit U.S. funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Rep. Roy expressed his concerns about WHO's actions during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, "The World Health Organization (WHO) doesn't serve our interests and doesn't deserve our money. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic this body ran interference for the Chinese Communist Party — arguably helping that regime make the entire outbreak worse."
He further criticized using taxpayer money to support WHO, saying, "Taking money from hardworking families struggling with the aftermath of Biden's inflation crisis to send it to a bunch of leftist 'health experts' and bureaucrats in Geneva is unacceptable." Rep. Roy also mentioned his confidence in former President Trump cutting off WHO's funding previously and emphasized that this legislation would prevent any future administration from reinstating it.
Rep. Roy accused WHO of being influenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), particularly at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He cited instances where WHO allegedly repeated false claims by CCP regarding human-to-human transmission and praised CCP's transparency while ignoring contrary evidence.
The bill has garnered support from several co-sponsors, including Representatives Clay Higgins, Andy Biggs, Claudia Tenney, Andy Ogles, Marjorie Taylor Greene, John Moolenaar, Ralph Norman, Eric Burlison, Diana Harshbarger, Pat Fallon, Barry Moore, Anna Paulina Luna, and Harriet Hageman.
