Rep. Chip Roy of Texas has reintroduced the FACE Act Repeal Act of 2025, aiming to abolish a law he claims has been misused against pro-life advocates. The legislation seeks to address what Roy describes as a "weaponized justice system" that has targeted individuals for their anti-abortion stance.
Roy stated, "While President Trump and his team are already fast at work reversing the damage of the J6 political prosecutions and persecutions through pardons and commutations, I am hopeful those targeted under the FACE Act will be given similar relief." He emphasized the need for Congress to eliminate laws like the FACE Act, which he believes have been used for political purposes. According to data from Merrick Garland's Department of Justice, Roy claims that 97% of FACE Act prosecutions between 1994 and 2024 were directed at pro-life Americans.
The bill is supported by several representatives including Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14), Daniel Webster (FL-11), among others. In the Senate, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) will continue efforts to support this legislative initiative.
Various organizations have expressed their backing for the repeal act. Tom McClusky from CatholicVote commented on how Catholics are now better protected under President Trump's administration compared to previous leadership. Kristan Hawkins from Students for Life Action also voiced support, criticizing what she perceives as an unfair use of the FACE Act against peaceful protestors while ignoring violent actions by pro-abortion activists.
