Rep. Chip Roy of Texas has reintroduced a bill aimed at eliminating certain diversity positions within the Department of Defense. The legislation, known as The Restoring Military Focus Act, seeks to permanently remove the roles of Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Advisors for Diversity and Inclusion. These positions were initially established under Section 913 of the FY21 National Defense Authorization Act.
In his statement regarding the bill, Congressman Roy criticized what he described as efforts by "radical progressive Democrats under the Biden Administration" to use the military as a "social experiment." He expressed gratitude towards former President Trump and Secretary Hegseth for their actions in restoring focus at the Pentagon. However, he emphasized that it is crucial for Republicans in Congress to make these changes permanent.
The proposed act would fully repeal 10 USC 147, effectively removing the aforementioned diversity positions and prohibiting federal funds from being used to re-establish them in the future.
Several representatives have co-sponsored this legislation, including Daniel Webster from Florida, Ralph Norman from South Carolina, Andy Ogles from Tennessee, and Lauren Boebert from Colorado.
