Rep. Chip Roy has introduced the Direct Medical Care Freedom Act, aiming to enhance healthcare freedom for Americans. The legislation seeks to address issues within the current healthcare system by expanding health savings accounts and promoting direct medical care.
"We need a way out of our broken healthcare system," said Congressman Roy. "Short of the massive industry-wide overhaul that we need, radical expansion of health savings accounts and direct medical care are the best ways to improve the healthcare system for everyday Americans."
The proposed bill allows patients to use tax-advantaged dollars for direct medical care, bypassing traditional insurance systems. "If we want to Make America Healthy Again, we need to work around the crony government-insurance racket, and this bill is a critical part of doing that," added Roy.
Key provisions in the bill include clarifying that Direct Primary Care (DPC) and Direct Specialty Care (DSC) are not considered health plans and ensuring they qualify as HSA medical expenses without caps.
Co-sponsored by Reps. Andy Biggs and Barry Moore, the bill has garnered support from organizations such as Heritage Action, DPC Action, Free2Care, Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom, and the Independent Medical Alliance.
Chad Savage, M.D., President of DPC Action commented on its significance: "The Direct Medical Care Freedom Act... ensures that direct medical care receives the same tax advantages as insurance-based medical care when using an HSA."
Twila Brase from Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom praised Roy's efforts: "Thank you to Congressman Roy for moving to right a wrong so Americans with HSAs can use these health care dollars..."
The Independent Medical Alliance also endorsed the act: "This legislation seeks to eliminate burdensome regulations... We applaud this initiative for its potential to expand healthcare freedom..."
