Rep. Chip Roy from Texas expressed his approval following the Senate's confirmation of Kash Patel as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In a statement released on Thursday, Rep. Roy emphasized his satisfaction with Patel's appointment, noting the delay in the confirmation process.
Roy stated, "I am pleased that — after too much delay — the Senate has confirmed Kash Patel today as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation." He voiced concerns about public confidence in the FBI, suggesting that Americans have lost trust in its ability to fulfill its mission effectively.
According to Roy, instead of focusing on real criminal threats and public safety issues, FBI leadership has been preoccupied with what he described as "politicized witch hunts." He cited examples such as investigations involving former President Trump and individuals like Scott Smith and Mark Houck.
Roy highlighted Patel's background as a former federal prosecutor and First Assistant Attorney General of Texas. He expressed confidence in Patel's commitment to addressing corruption within the FBI. "It’s important to me that Director Patel has made clear his mission to serve as the disruptor America needs at the FBI," Roy commented.
The congressman criticized what he perceives as a shift in focus within the FBI since 9/11 towards broad definitions of domestic terrorism, which he believes detracts from combatting organized crime. He concluded by expressing his eagerness to collaborate with Director Patel: "I look forward to working with Director Patel to keep Americans safe and put more bad guys in jail."
