Representative Chip Roy from Texas announced the successful passage of his bill, H.R. 22, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The bill, voted on by the House of Representatives, aims to ensure that only U.S. citizens participate in federal elections.
Roy expressed satisfaction with the bipartisan support, stating: "Despite the ridiculous attacks and purposeful misinformation spread about the bill, I am pleased to see that the House of Representatives once again passed the SAVE Act on a bipartisan basis to ensure only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections."
He extended his gratitude to Speaker Johnson, Chairman Steil, and Senator Mike Lee for their support and collaboration in pushing the legislation forward. Roy emphasized, "In order to preserve this republic, we must uphold what it means to be able to vote in a U.S. election. I am grateful that my colleagues answered the call and passed the SAVE Act, as this serves as a critical first step to ensure that we maintain election integrity throughout our country."
Now, the responsibility shifts to the Senate to further advance the legislation. Roy urged, "It is now up to the Senate to take up, pass, and send this important bill to President Trump’s desk."
The main provisions of the SAVE Act include requiring states to verify citizenship in person before registering individuals to vote in federal elections and mandating states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls while providing them with necessary tools for compliance.
