Nueces Canyon CISD schools Education: 4 multiracial students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were four multiracial students enrolled in Nueces Canyon CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Nueces Canyon CISD schools welcomed 248 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, multiracial students comprised 1.6% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Nueces Canyon CISD roughly covers schools within Edwards County and has a main office in Barksdale.

Among the two schools in Nueces Canyon CISD schools, Nueces Canyon Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of multiracial students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of three students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
