Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Val Verde County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 10,577 students attending Val Verde County schools, 92.9% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 5.6% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Val Verde County, comprising 92.6% of the student body.

Roberto Bobby Barrera Elementary STEM Magnet had the most diverse student body in Val Verde County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county dropped 0.6%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
