Rep. Chip Roy of Texas issued a statement following the House of Representatives' approval of H.R. 1968, which extends government funding until September 30, 2025. The resolution aims to maintain current spending levels while allowing the Trump Administration to address what it considers wasteful expenditures.
"Today, I voted to effectively freeze spending levels for six more months and to give runway for the Trump Administration to continue its efforts to root out wasteful spending," Rep. Roy stated. He emphasized that House Republicans and President Trump are working swiftly to address issues left by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and President Joe Biden, who he claims failed to pass a budget or appropriations bills.
Roy highlighted that the continuing resolution "excludes earmarks, modestly reduces year-over-year spending," and prevents Democrats from obstructing efforts by President Trump and Russ Vought in identifying wasteful practices. He remarked on the public's growing awareness of government overspending: "The American people are now seeing that this whole town – THE SWAMP – has been wasting their money on absurd expenditures."
He noted that this measure is part of an ongoing effort to control spending. Roy stressed the importance of supporting initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary expenses and passing future appropriations with significant cuts identified by DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency). He called for measures to combat inflation through further spending reductions and making tax cuts permanent.
"It’s now our never," he concluded, urging immediate action on these fiscal goals.
