Representatives Chip Roy and Randy Weber have urged the Biden-Harris administration to take immediate action to protect Texas elections. They demand access to data that would ensure only U.S. citizens are registered to vote in the state.
Governor Greg Abbott recently removed 6,500 potential noncitizens from Texas voter rolls, underscoring the need for further verification before the upcoming election. The federal government has not yet complied with Texas's request for USCIS data, crucial for verifying voter eligibility.
Representative Roy stated, “Texas has a duty to prevent noncitizens from voting. The Biden-Harris administration is trying to prevent that for the same reason they fought the SAVE Act (H.R. 8281): they want noncitizens — especially illegal aliens — to vote." He emphasized that public confidence in elections must be earned through diligence and transparency.
Representative Weber added, "The refusal to provide the State of Texas with vital information that should be readily accessible is nothing short of a dereliction of duty. The Harris-Biden administration is willfully turning a blind eye as noncitizens potentially influence our elections." He questioned why federal law prohibiting noncitizen voting isn't being enforced by providing necessary information.
Other Texas Republicans supporting this call include Lance Gooden, John Carter, Brian Babin, Keith Self, August Pfluger, Pete Sessions, Ronny Jackson, Morgan Luttrell, Troy Nehls, Wesley Hunt, Beth Van Duyne, and Pat Fallon.
