AUSTIN ISD: Open for Learning Newsletter: Being safe and prepared this holiday

Announce

Austin ISD issued the following announcement.

Safe Holiday Practices

We know that our AISD community wants to have a joyous holiday season while also staying safe. To help identify ways to celebrate while minimizing the risk of spreading COVID-19, Austin Public Health has issued the following guidance:

Low-Risk Activities

  • Celebrating with members of your household.
  • Decorating your living space.
  • Hosting a virtual gathering with friends and family.
  • Preparing traditional recipes and delivering them in a no-contact manner.
  • Watching holiday-themed movies or shows.
Medium-Risk Activities

  • Hosting a small dinner with local family and friends outdoors.
  • Attending an outdoor gathering.
  • Visiting orchards and tree farms where hand sanitizer is used before touching objects.
  • Having an outdoor parade or movie night.
High-Risk Activities

  • Traditional caroling or other door-to-door activities.
  • Attending crowded, indoor gatherings.
  • Going on hayrides with non-household members.
  • Traveling outside your community for gatherings and events.
We recommend avoiding all high-risk activities. In addition, please be cautious with all medium-risk activities to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. More information and tips are available via Austin Public Health.

Prescreening

Prescreening for symptoms every morning is a great way to help ensure your campus stays healthy. As a reminder: All students, staff and visitors must complete the COVID-19 Screen & Go questionnaire each morning on the AISD Mobile App. You know yourself and your children the best. Prescreening continues to be one of the most effective tools we have in preventing the spread of COVID-19. If you or your child are sick: please stay home! See our COVID-19 health & safety page for more information.

Superintendent Letter

Dr. Stephanie Elizalde wrote a letter to staff following her Superintendent Report at Monday’s board meeting. In the letter, she outlined important information around cases in Austin, rapid tests and more.

Inside AISD Food Services

When your child eats a meal at Austin ISD, they will be enjoying healthy, tasty foods prepared with local and sustainably sourced ingredients. We are proud to premiere a short documentary on AISD Food Services on our social media channels and AISD.TV, cable channel 22. It covers their culinary talent, scratch cooking and locally sourced foods. The video can also be used as an educational resource for your children this break!

More Great Information

To keep up with districtwide information, you are invited to tune in every week to AISD in 3.

We are #AISDProud that Reilly Elementary school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, and Principal Corrine Saenz received the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership. Ms. Saenz delivered a heartful and passionate speech at the virtual ceremony.

Please join us to commemorate Native American Heritage Month with virtual events today and tomorrow.

Through a year of tremendous change and growth, our substitutes have been a vital part of the success of our students, district and community. We are excited to offer a pay increase for substitute teachers and substitute teacher assistants.

Mark your calendars! Our virtual middle school fair is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 through 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
