Rep. Chip Roy has released a report titled "The Case for Healthcare Freedom," which addresses the current state of America's healthcare system and suggests potential reforms. According to Rep. Roy, the report offers a roadmap for Congressional Republicans to assist President Trump in tackling the nation's health crisis.

Rep. Roy stated, "The problem isn't just health insurance, or Big Pharma, or food additives that are making us unhealthy; it's the fact that politicians, bureaucrats and corporations are all benefitting from a broken, cronyistic system that lets them put profits over patients with impunity."

He emphasized the need for Congress to seize the opportunity to reform American healthcare by empowering patients and doctors through expansive health savings accounts during the budget reconciliation process. "If we want to Make America Healthy Again, the answer is healthcare freedom," he added.

The report highlights several findings about healthcare costs and spending in recent years:

- In 2024, families and employers paid nearly $25,000 annually for health insurance.

- Obamacare's promise to lower premiums by $2,500 per year remains unfulfilled.

- SNAP may spend over $250 billion on junk food over ten years despite chronic food illnesses killing up to 678,000 Americans annually.

- Novo Nordisk spent at least $25.8 million promoting its obesity drugs in the U.S.

- Four of the top five American industries by revenue were healthcare-related in 2024.

- Hospital cash prices are often lower than insurer-negotiated prices.

- U.S. healthcare spending reached $4.9 trillion in 2023.

Roy criticized both government involvement and private interests within the current system: "Our current healthcare system is neither free nor competitive... Half measures by Republicans will not save us from this disaster."

He also noted America's role as a leader in medical innovation but warned against excessive reliance on pharmaceuticals when lifestyle changes could suffice.

According to Roy, "We do not have a 'free market' healthcare system; we have textbook crony capitalism." He called for more patient autonomy and financial control: "Healthcare freedom does not mean 'you are on your own.' It means you are free to make your own health decisions."
