Rep. Roy expressed his gratitude following the signing of the Laken Riley Act into law. He acknowledged President Trump for swiftly enacting the legislation, which mandates the detention and removal of more criminal aliens from the United States.
In his statement, Rep. Roy highlighted the inclusion of the SUE Act in the new law. "I am particularly pleased the bill includes the SUE Act — which I introduced last Congress with my friend Dan Bishop - to provide states with legal standing to sue the federal government when it fails to enforce immigration law," he stated.
Rep. Roy also extended his appreciation to several individuals involved in advocating for this legislation. "I wish I could have been present for the signing to thank the bill’s lead sponsor Mike Collins (R-GA), Laken Riley’s family, and in particular my friend Alexis Nungaray for their courage to fight for these reforms to take place after their personal tragic losses," he said.
He emphasized that while this legislation is a significant step towards improving border security and public safety, further actions are necessary. "The legislation is an important step in the process to reclaim our borders and restore public safety, American sovereignty and the rule of law, but our work continues," Rep. Roy noted. He urged Congress to provide additional resources to support border security efforts.
