WASHINGTON, DC— In a statement issued on Friday, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) announced his endorsement of Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

"The first thing I did as a Congressman-elect in November 2018 was nominate Jim Jordan for Minority Leader," Roy stated. "I supported him then because he is a friend and strong advocate for the conservative cause - and after serving with him, my support has only grown, and I proudly endorse him for Speaker of the House of Representatives."

Highlighting the need for unity, Roy believes that Jordan can bring the members of the House together to complete the work they have started. He emphasized the importance of holding the line against what he sees as a radical Biden agenda, which he believes is endangering Americans through crippling inflation, open borders, lawlessness, and a divisive cultural ideology that undermines the military and divides the country.

While acknowledging the frustration some of his colleagues may have over the recent Motion to Vacate against Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a move Roy strongly opposed, he stresses the importance of preserving the rule. He views it as a historic and institutional tool for individual members to exercise their right to represent their constituents without being disregarded by the establishment.

"It was a central issue in our fight in January to end the swamp’s stranglehold on the affairs of representative government — and I cannot in good faith change my position on the rule just because my preferred candidate, Jim Jordan, might be Speaker," Roy explained. "Occasionally, Congress should be consistent."

Concluding his statement, Roy urges his colleagues to select Jim Jordan as the Speaker of the House and get to work on fulfilling their duties.
