WASHINGTON, DC - Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) has spearheaded a call from a group of 24 Texas House GOP lawmakers for Senate Republicans to take action on border security. In a letter addressed to their Senate colleagues, the lawmakers emphasized the urgency of passing H.R. 2 - the Secure the Border Act of 2023 - and implementing the Texas Border Plan.
The legislators commended the House of Representatives for passing H.R. 2 in May 2023, hailing it as "by far the strongest border security legislation to ever pass Congress." However, they expressed disappointment that the Senate, under the leadership of Chuck Schumer, has thus far failed to act on this critical legislation.
"While there may be other ideas to consider, the core principles of H.R. 2 are essential for addressing the disastrous flow of migrants to our border," the Congress members wrote in their letter. They urged their Senate Republican colleagues to fight for the policy changes outlined in the Texas Border Plan and to seize every opportunity to ensure their passage in the Senate.
The letter was co-signed by several prominent Texas representatives, including Kay Granger (TX-12), Monica De La Cruz (TX-15), Keith Self (TX-3), Pat Fallon (TX-4), Beth Van Duyne (TX-24), Michael Cloud (TX-27), Randy Weber (TX-14), Wesley Hunt (TX-38), Brian Babin (TX-36), Morgan Luttrell (TX-8), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Troy Nehls (TX-22), Michael Burgess (TX-26), Jake Ellzey (TX-6), John Carter (TX-31), Pete Sessions (TX-17), Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Roger Williams (TX-25), Michael McCaul (TX-10), Lance Gooden (TX-5), August Pfluger (TX-11), Nathaniel Moran (TX-1), and Dan Crenshaw (TX-2).
