WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) has voiced his opposition to the recent continuing resolution (CR) passed by Congress. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Roy expressed his concerns over the impact of the CR on inflation, the national debt, and critical policy issues such as border security.
Roy stated, "Today, I voted against a continuing resolution (CR) that continues inflationary deficit spending, fails to secure a single policy victory for the American people, won the praise of the leader of the House Progressive Caucus, was jammed through over conservative objections via suspension of the rules, and impedes Republicans' future fights on critical issues like border security."
The congressman highlighted the detrimental effects of inflation on American workers' paychecks, noting that interest payments on the national debt have been rapidly increasing. Roy pointed out that Moody's recently downgraded the country's debt outlook to "negative."
Furthermore, Roy criticized the CR for perpetuating Washington's spending addiction while funding initiatives that he believes directly undermine American security, prosperity, and way of life. He specifically mentioned the Biden administration's open border policies, anti-Israel UN programs, government-wide diversity and Critical Race Theory (CRT) programs, abortion tourism, transgender surgeries at the Pentagon, and a weaponized Department of Justice (DOJ) as examples of problematic funding allocations.
According to Roy, the current state of affairs in Washington is detrimental to the well-being of the republic. He asserted that the American people did not elect a Republican majority to perpetuate the status quo. Unfortunately, in his view, the CR passed by Congress does just that.
Roy's opposition to the CR reflects his concerns over the long-term implications of inflation and the national debt, as well as his stance on critical policy issues. His vote against the continuing resolution underscores his commitment to advocating for fiscal responsibility and prioritizing the interests of the American people.
As the debate over government spending and policy priorities continues, Roy's statement serves as a reminder of the diverse perspectives held within Congress and the importance of robust discussion and deliberation on these matters.
